ALLERWALDSWEG
The forest is a popular destination for leisure and recreation, with walks in nature having been shown to have positive effects on both mental and physical health. However, for people with disabilities, there are often barriers to accessing the forest. Suitable paths are rare and often not clearly marked, and those responsible may lack awareness of these limitations. This affects a significant number of people, as approximately 7.9 million individuals in Germany had severe disabilities in 2019, including 349 thousand with blindness or visual impairment.
To address this issue and promote empathy for blind and visually impaired individuals, we have created the "Allerwaldsweg" exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness not only for a barrier-free forest but also for the importance of the forest and its impact on the body. All stations of the exhibition have been designed to be accessible for everyone. Visitors then enter a dark forest area where they can experience the forest with their other senses and gain a deeper understanding of the barriers that exist. Finally, the exhibition concludes with a discussion of accessibility in relation to nature and the forest.
